Shot Relationships
The
film scene I have chosen is from a movie called, “The Hangover Part III.” The
film was released in 2013. The scene I have chosen from the movie portrays
great examples of film editing strategies. In this scene the camera work was
done specifically to help the audience grasp the meaning of the scene. You can
see in the first shot the editing strategy called “establishing the shot.” This
is used to show the audience the world around the character. It’s easier for
the audience to figure out where the scene is and what’s actually happening. You
can see the car in one shot, then the highway with the car, and then another
shot of him driving. This is great to open up your film or your scene. Another editing
strategy used in the scene is called “eyeline matching.” It is done by showing
the audience what the character is seeing by going back and forth between
shots. It is basically how the audience can tell who the character is talking
to in the scene. You can cut the shots and make the characters look at one
another to do this editing technique. The producer of the film did a great job
using these editing strategies in this specific scene. The shots were organized
in way that made it feel smooth and an easy transition from one clip to the
next. The audience didn’t get confused and it just flowed nicely. The movement
of the camera angles did a great job in showing the audience where and what was
happening in each clip and that was done well too.
